Social Reproduction

There is been huge social inequality between the rich family and poor family, and one thing we know is that this large social inequality between the rich and families with much more resources, and the poor elements of the society seems to replicate itself across generation, a large group of people who have rich parents tend to end up wealthy themselves and people who had poor parents tend to end up poor. And this is actually a contentious process which called "social reproduction".

"Social reproduction means is that we are reproducing the social inequality across generations."

There are many reasons for social reproduction or we can say that why rich stays rich and poor stays poor. Like wealthy families have money and that’s called "financial capital" so with financial capitals one can invest many things so they can get "social capital" (building social networks).

Social capital helps in gaining good networks of people, so that rich people tend to end up getting good advice and better standard of living in the society. Another thing is that wealthy families can also gain exposure to cultural capital (different cultures, art knowledge etc..).

Cultural capital also plays a very vital role in self-development and to develop good connection overseas. But in the case of poor families these things are not common but these families also have social networks and culture on which they rely on. And to break this system of rich and poor the best solution is the education system. Education system helps to break these social reproduction gaps and one with the better ability can change their life and gain financial capital.

Social reproduction is nothing but reproduction of social structures and systems on the basis of a particular pre conditions (or special conditions) by referring to the demographics education and material property or legal titles. Social Reproduction is also known as the maintenance and continuation of existing social relations.

According to Marxist theory, the household plays an integral role in the reproduction of class society. However, Bhattacharya’s (Bhattacharya, 2017a; 2017b) reproduction theory has been the subject of academic interest. She has also given more importance to the labors involved in the production and reproduction system. She also explained the importance of workers, because workers labor and workmanship and hard work is what creates wealth in the society but what about the workers and who produce them is the question she puts in his theory of reproduction.

On the other and Feminist geographer Cindi Katz (2001: 711) famously defined social reproduction as the “fleshy, messy, and indeterminate stuff of everyday life”. And Bhattacharya and others point out, social reproduction refers to the reproduction of society as a whole
